Take Back the Rainbow

The rainbow is a beautiful sign of God's covenant promise to never destroy the earth again by flood. Yet, people need to know that it is inextricably connected to God's judgment over sin and humankind's disobedience to follow his ways.

In the days of Noah the scripture says, "The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled" Genesis 6:5-6.

The word regretted in Hebrew means to be sorry, to change your mind, to repent.

Wait! What? God repented? Normally, people have to repent because of their sin. But here we see God repenting because of people’s sins! He was sorry he had ever made human beings! 

How ironic, sad, and strange that today the rainbow has become a symbol to identify a lifestyle that God says is sinful.

Christians must reject this modern symbolism, and take back the rainbow so that people know it is a sign of God's mercy to never destroy the earth again by flood. God gave humankind a second chance and repopulated the earth through Noah and his family. Sadly, people continued sinning in rebellion against Holy God. This time, however, rather than destroying the earth and wiping out human existence again, God sent his only Son to take the death penalty we deserve. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ” Romans 6:23.

The Lord is long-suffering; he is patient and wants all to come to him (2 Peter 3:9). We must repent, that is change our minds about our loyalties and the way we think, and turn to God for the forgiveness of our sins.

Friends, Jesus is coming back in our lifetime! He's either coming in the clouds for all to see or we'll meet him one-by-one in our deaths.

Understand this, it is God’s mercy and grace that restrains his judgment on our planet today. Turn to Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. Today is the day of salvation.
