You're Still God

The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21b (KJV)

Unbeknownst to Job, God's faithful, trusting, and loving servant, he is about to receive a series of devastating news. 

One right after another Job is hit hard with a sequence of unfortunate events. First he hears that all his oxen and donkeys have been stolen, and his farmhands killed.

No sooner is that bad news delivered when he's told, fire has burned up his sheep and his shepherds.

It seems like before he can even catch his breath . . . bam, he's hit again! This time all of his camels are stolen and his servants killed. 

As if that wasn't enough, while still reeling from the shock of what he had just heard, he is confronted with the ultimate blow. He is informed that his children were at the eldest son's house when a great wind blew and caused the house to fall upon his children, killing them.

Poor Job, he's been hit physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually! What is he going to do, how can he handle all of this? 

We're told, Job fell to the ground and worshipped. Broken hearted, stunned, confused, Job sums up the whole situation by saying, "the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." Then we are told, "in all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly" 1:20b-22 (KJV).

During the fiery trials it was Job's unwavering trust and faith in God that sustained him, and that same type of immovable steadfastness can be cultivated in our spiritual relationship with God.

I have never had as many calamities hit me at one time like Job did, but I can testify that it was unwavering trust and faith in Almighty God that allowed me to pen the lyrics to "You're Still God" when our oldest son recently passed away due to lingering health issues.

You're still God 
In the midst of the trembling quake 
You're still God 
Even when our heart breaks

You're still God and God You will always be
You're still God, You're Still God

You're still God 
When there's rumors of wars and death
You're still God when our loved ones take their final breath

You're still God and God you will always be
You're still God, You're still God

You're still God
You're more than enough for me
You're still God 
And God You will always be

You're still God and my heart cries 
Abba Father
You're still God, You're still God
You're still God

Prayer: "We are so thankful that regardless of the circumstances we may face in this life, we rest confidently knowing 'You're still God.' We love you Lord. Amen."
