Is it the Mark of the Beast? 

In the year 2021, we have seen a rise in news reports of governments across the world considering mandating passports to show vaccination status of their citizens, and if you don’t have it, you won’t be able to buy or sell or participate in the culture. Never in my lifetime has the verse from Revelation 13:16-17 seemed remotely possible—until now! It’s no wonder many are thinking this is the Mark of the Beast and these are the end times. It may very well be the end times, things are really crazy all across the world, but is it the Mark? I don’t think so. However, this may be a social conditioning for it.

Today, however, I’d like you to consider some other kinds of marks. The Bible says that all have sinned; we don’t measure up to God’s perfection (Romans 3:23). We are marked for death, because the wages of our sin is death (Romans 6:23). Our sins can mark us in such a way that we may even become known for and identified by them as thieves, drug addicts, drunkards, sexually immoral, liars, gluttons, swindlers, and gossips (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). That’s certainly not an exhaustive list! I confess, I’m in that line up. What about you? 

Here's the good news, for those who are in Christ, we no longer have to be identified by our sins! 1 Corinthians 6:11 reminds us of God’s wonderful promise of forgiveness, “that is what some of you were—[liars, thieves, gluttons, drunkards, immoral, gossips . . .]—but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” Praise the LORD!

Now here’s the truth-bomb, when you turn to Jesus, trusting him to save you, you are given another mark—the seal of the Holy Spirit! Ephesians 1:13-14 says, “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

Everything Satan does is a counterfeit of what God does. The mark of the Beast is no exception. When his mark is instituted, it will be for the purpose of subjecting people to his kingdom. Those who receive it will be enslaved and under his control. Whereas, those who trust in Jesus as their Savior are given the mark of the Holy Spirit. This mark is a seal of freedom for God's kingdom people. It is a guarantee of an eternal inheritance with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! It is a mark of freedom and salvation!

The fact is, these are the end times! We will all see Jesus in our lifetime—either one-by-one in our deaths or when he comes in the clouds for all to see. Here’s the question, “Have you received the mark of the Holy Spirit? Are you sealed in him?" Don’t wait another minute. Your eternity depends on it! Today is the day of salvation. Come to Jesus! 

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved . . . ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved’” Romans 10:9-10, 13.
