1) T-H-A-N-K-F-U-L

(Age appropriate for 2nd-6th Grade.)

Throughout the book of Psalms we are told to give thanks to God. (Read the following three Psalms and discuss what the writer was thankful for.)

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 136:1

I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. Psalm 118:21

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7

What are some of the things the writer of these Psalms was thankful for? (God's goodness, enduring love, answered prayers, salvation, protection, help.)

What are some things that you are thankful for? (Allow for discussion)

3) Trust Is Not Figuring It Out

Proverbs 3:5 says, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Many Christians say that they trust the Living God, and are believing God for something by faith, yet on the other hand they are trying to figure out how it is going to be done. For the purpose of getting true clarity regarding this lesson, I will define the words “trust” and “figure.” The Webster’s New World Dictionary and Thesaurus defines “trust” as a firm belief in the honesty, reliability, etc, of another; faith.

The Hebrew word for “trust” in this text of scripture is “batach” (pronounced baw-takh), meaning to trust, be confident or sure, be bold (confident, secure, sure), careless, put confidence, (make to) hope.
