1) Anniversary Message

Dear SSTN Support Partners and Subscribers,

Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary! Today marks the 13th year for Christian educators sharing their ideas on SSTN!

In the early days, before social media and the plethora of online newsletters that are available today, SSTN was the place for Christian educators to exchange their ideas. However, in the last few years there hasn't been as many teachers willing to share their ideas or opinions. Yet that hasn't stopped the subscriber list from growing. On January 10, 2000, we began with 65 teachers enrolled; now there are over 34,000 subscribers.

As we enter our 14th year, let us not grow weary in doing good. Let us press on for the furthering of the Kingdom. To that end, don't keep your ideas and God-given gifts to yourself, share them with the other teachers in the network--be willing to help other teachers in need. As the Scripture says, "Let us consider how we can stir up one another to love. Let us help one another to do good works. . . Instead, let us cheer each other up with words of hope. Let us do it all the more as you see the day coming when Christ will return" (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIRV).

Your input makes SSTN possible! Blessings to your ministry in 2013!

2) Goals for the New Year?

Do you make yearly goals for your ministry? Do you also have them for the students you teach? If so, please share what you would like to achieve by making them?

And is there a teaching method or idea that you recently implemented that has been successful? Please share that too.

3) Resolve to Run Faithfully

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. . .” Hebrews 12:1

Watching the young man skim-board at the beach, I was reminded of my childhood when my brother and I skim-boarded in mud puddles. Our skill never rose, even slightly, to the level of the young man in the surf! It took him time, commitment, and dedication to rise to that level, which is true for any sport. A weight-lifter doesn’t begin bench pressing 300 pounds. A marathoner doesn’t run 26.2 miles the first time she runs. To be at the top of their game requires dedication, perseverance, and commitment, which my brother and I were unwilling to devote to skim-boarding!

Several years ago my beloved 14 year old nephew was killed in a skateboard accident. His family was successful financially, seemingly having everything to make them happy, yet they hadn’t devoted their lives to strengthening their faith. How could they possibly have survived a tragedy of this magnitude? Without strong and deeply rooted faith, they had nothing to sustain them through this disaster; their lives were shattered.

It’s no accident that God compares our Christian walk to running a race. Faith must be exercised. We cannot be expected to endure life’s hardships well without the proper spiritual training.

As the New Year arrives, countless people will resolve. . .You can read the rest of today's devotional at:
