Narrator:
"One day when Jesus was teaching he told a story about a Wedding Party.
See if you can understand what he wants us to know about God's Kingdom from this
story:
The king prepared a big party to celebrate the marriage of his son to his
bride.
(Take a bow Son and Bride.)
The king sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to
tell them to come.
(Tell one of your servants to bring the guests to the party, King.)
The servant tried to bring the guests, but they refused to come.
(Look disappointed, Servant.)
Then the king sent another servant to tell the guests the party was ready to
start and the food was prepared.
(Send another servant, King.)
But those guests were too busy, and some of them grabbed the servant and
mistreated him.
(Run for your life, Servant! Now come back to the King.)
The king really wanted to celebrate his son's wedding, so he told his
servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to
come. Go to the street corners and invite to the party anyone you can find.' So
the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could
find, both good and bad."
(Go invite some more guests to come to the party, servants.)
But before the guests could enter the party they had to wear special wedding
clothes that the king had provided for them.
(Servants, clothe the guests with special clothes, place the dots on their
foreheads.)
Now the room was filled with guests, which pleased the king and his son and
bride.
(Jump for joy, Royal Family!)
But when the king looked around the room...
(Look carefully around the room, King.)
...he noticed a man not wearing the special clothes he had provided. This
really upset him!
(Look angry and stomp your feet, King.)
So the King ordered his servants to throw the man out of the party,
(Point them to the door, Servants.)
The man was thrown out of the party because he was disrespectful and
disobedient to the King by not wearing the proper clothing.
The End."
Discussion:
1) What do you suppose Jesus wants us to understand about God's Kingdom from
this story?
(God invites everyone to come to him, but we must come to God according to his plan and not our own.
The guests that refused to come to the banquet, or the ones that were too busy,
or the one that wouldn't wear the proper clothes, wanted to do things their own
way. This story teaches us that God wants us to follow and obey him by choosing
his way and not our own way.)
2) How do we discover God's way for our lives? (First, by asking Jesus to be
our Savior and Forever Friend, then learning what God tells us.)
3) How do we learn what God tells us? (By reading the Bible or having it read
to us. Coming to church and Sunday School.)
4) What other ways can we learn God's way for our lives? (By
praying to God and asking him to show us his way. Obeying and trusting
God.)
5) How are Christians to be like the servants in the story? (The
servants went into the streets to invite everyone they met to come to
the banquet; in the same way, Christians are to go into all the world
and tell the good news about Jesus to everyone.)
