Ten Things to Know About Heaven

From the Ten Commandments

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. . . Revelation 21:4 (NIV).

The 10 Commandments were given* to be a mirror to us – a mirror that we could clearly see that no one (except Jesus Christ, the Son of GOD) could be perfect – it is impossible for anyone to keep all 10 of GOD’s laws.

Since it takes being perfect in GOD’S eyes to enter heaven – and we KNOW that only GOD is perfect – we also know that NO sin will be in heaven.

The same 10 Commandments that share GOD’S heart for perfection – tells us 10 things we can know about heaven.

For those who have trusted in the finished sacrifice for their sins - of the shed blood of JESUS CHRIST offered to cover our sins – these 10 things give us peace and a passion to share God's salvation plan with others. THANK YOU, JESUS!

1. There will only be ONE GOD in heaven. No other gods will be there.

2. There will be no idols that anyone bows down to in heaven.

3. No one in heaven will use the name of the Lord in vain.

4. Those who inhabit heaven will continually be in holy worship - because Sabbath means "rest" and those in heaven will finally be at "rest" because they are HOME with JESUS.

5. We will continually HONOR our Heavenly Father* - our Creator - and our days will be long - our life will be eternal.

6. There will be no murder in heaven.

7. There will be no adultery in heaven.

8. No one will steal in heaven.

9. No one will bear false witness in heaven.

10. No one will covet in heaven.

I don't know about you, but I can't wait to live in heaven!

GOD truly spoke this thought in my head. I had never heard anyone use this in speaking about heaven. It made so much sense when I heard HIM say, “NOW you know a little about what heaven will be like.”

Sometime later I shared this with a pastor in Ohio when my sister and I went to meet the man who makes free, 10 commandment plaques. When I asked him if he knew the 10 commandments, he said, “Yes.” I asked him what commandment #5 is. He couldn’t tell me the specific commandments by number. (I have only met 2 pastors who could answer commandments by specific numbers. One is my son!)

I asked him, “Would you like to know them in and out of order?” He said he did want to know. SO I shared the Look n' Learn Ten Commandments method with him, then went on to share the exciting news about heaven too!

He was a very austere man – and didn’t show much emotion. But he said he truly appreciated the presentation. (I thought he was reserved because he was embarrassed for not knowing commandment #5.) I left him a Look n' Learn bookmark, as he wanted to teach his young grandchildren, but I thought perhaps he was just being nice and was probably glad to see us leave. LOL I also left him information about SSTN – where he could get more bookmarks, etc.

A week or so later my sister had to call the man who makes the plaques. He was very excited to tell her that his Pastor had used the 10 Commandment presentation as his sermon the very next day! He insisted that the entire congregation participate. He also shared the 10 things about heaven as well!!! Pretty cool! I had never written a pastor’s sermon before! LOL

*Editor's note: ". . . the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith" Galatians 3:24-26 (ESV).

Commandment #5 says, "Honor your father and your mother . . . " God has placed parents in charge within the home. As such, they are to model Christ, so that children ultimately honor God.
