Teach Children About Tithing

Make a Tithing Bank

"Bring the whole tithe, (one-tenth), into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it" Malachi 3:10.

The three part Tithing Bank pictured here reads, First, give to God 10% or more for church and missions. Second, save some money for when you REALLY need it. Third, ___________'s spending money. (Child's name is written in the blank space)

What you need: Three 8 oz. containers, the patterns to cover them, tacky glue, hot glue, scissors, crayons and stickers are optional.

What you do: Wash and dry the containers thoroughly. Print the patterns onto colored or white paper. Then cut them out. The child may decorate the patterns with crayons and stickers (optional). Before you glue the patterns onto the containers, open and close the "open here" side at the tops of the containers a few times. This will make it easy to open and close when placing money in and out of the bank. You will need to print three pattern pages per bank. The 2-1/4" x 5" pattern strips are glued across the top and down the sides of the container. The patterns with text go on the front and back sides (see picture above). The backside doesn't need the text showing. However, if you decide to use the text side of the pattern on back, make sure they match the front side text. Once the patterns are glued on, hot glue the three sections together making sure they are in proper order. Make sure the glue is dry before trying to open and close the bank sections.
