The young man pleaded, “I frequently feel like I'm not saved. I always feel like I'm not doing enough, or doing what I'm supposed to do. Please pray for me.”
Have you ever felt that way too? I know I have. That whisper of doubt is one of Satan’s favorite lies. But what is the truth?
The truth is we are not enough. We can never—and will never—do enough or be good enough to make ourselves right with God. Scripture says, “All have turned away, no one is good, not even one” (Romans 3:12).
Because we like to feel in control, our nature is to do—to try harder, perform better, prove ourselves.
But God says, “It is finished.”
We want to work for salvation, but God says, “Rest in Me.”
But what about that verse that says ‘work out your salvation’?
The key is this: “Work out” is not the same as “work for.” Working out our salvation is the response to a gift already given. As the Apostle Paul reminds us: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can brag about it (Ephesians 2:8–9).
So how should we feel?
Eternal gratitude! We are to be people who present our lives as living sacrifices, fully devoted to our Savior. "For we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has prepared for us" Ephesians 2:10.
Let us be those who continually renew our minds, refusing to let the world squeeze us into its mold. Let’s keep looking to Jesus— the Author of our faith and the One who completes it!
Jesus paid it all. All to Him we owe!
Amen?
