1) Opening Activity / Temple Heirarchy?
I want to begin my class with some acitivity so that the class begins
with some liveliness and then pass on the message of word of god through
the activity.
This Sunday I would be teaching my class the topic Heirarchy of
Structure of the temple can you give me some apt points so that I can
cover it interestingly.
Thanks
Lara
--from SSTN: icebreakers can be a fun way to open class time. There are
quite a few to choose from in our Bible Games section under the
F-R-E-E Stuff area at:
http://www.SundaySchoolNetwork.com
As to the temple, our latest series, "The Great Promises of the Bible"
devotes an entire lesson to the tabernacle/temple and also explains the
parallel of the temple and temple furniture to the life and ministry of
Jesus. For example:
* Tabernacle: Jesus became flesh and dwelt "tabernacled" among us
(John 1:14); God's Spirit lives among his people (2 Corinthians. 5:1-4).
* Altar of Sacrifice: One way to God, one sacrifice on the cross (John
14:6; Heb. 10:12-14); Like the priests of long-ago who made daily, dead
sacrifices, Christians are to offer their lives daily as "living
sacrifices" (Romans 12:1-2).
* Seven-branched Candlestick: Jesus is the Light of the world (John 9:5;
Rev. 21:23). "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good
deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
* Table of Showbread: Jesus is the Bread of Life (John 6:35), "…my God
will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ
Jesus." (Philippians. 4:19)

2) Ice Cream Social?
My husband is in charge of planning an Ice Cream Social as an outreach to
the neighborhood around the church. We need ideas for the event. Has
anyone done ice cream or something similar? Activities?

4) Sunday School Workshop
Good Morning,
My name is Evang. Michelle Jones and I am the superintendant of Sunday
School at my church here in Indianapolis, IN. Once a month I put on a
training for the teachers to instruct and inspire them to be the best that
they can be in their chosen profession. When I first started this we did
an exercise that I called "What do I bring to the table?" The reason I
started off with this is because I wanted them to see this as a ministry
and not an auxiliary of the church. So that first session we talked about
teaching as a calling and a ministry and I used various scriptures out of
the bible to support my position.
Then I moved to doing workshops on expository teaching, pedigogy,
homoletics and hermanuetics (I hope I am spelling them right). This
broadened the teachers teaching base and gave them more tools to work
with. I did not do all of the trainings my self, I enlisted the help of
others. With each session I would have live examples of scriptures from
the upcoming lessons to illustrate how these types of teachings will be
beneficial to the teachers and the students.
I would suggest that you open it up for anyone who is interested to come,
you may be able to pull in more teachers that way and have a greater base
of teachers to work with.
I did not find any information out there specifically for teachers, so we
kind of created our own. Look at what you vision is and what direction
God is leading you in. After you have don that then pray for direction
and God will inspire you as to what you agenda should be and what you
should do first. I would make it either an all day event with lunch
included or a series where they will have to continue in order to benefit
from everything you have to offer.
You can e-mail me off site if you would like any further information
and/or ideas. My e-mail address is jonesmp35@hotmail.com. Please let me
know who you are in the subject line because I get gobs of junk mail daily
and I try to weed them out without having to look at each one.
I hope this is of some help to you and that you are inspired to do great
things while you instruct, lead and inspire the teachers.
Yours in Service,
Evang. Michelle Jones

8) Bulletin Board Sunday School attendance
>Wanting suggestions for a Sunday School Bulletin Board.

Reply to Lesia:
For our pre-K/ Kindergarten class, we placed a huge tree at the center of
our Bulletin Board. We put the children's pictures (beautiful 8 x
10's) on colored construction paper and placed them at the ends of the
branches. We added some leaves as well. It was easy to expand for new
members. Arched over the top we titled our board: "Growing with God".

Leisa,
We have a bulletin board with the kids pictures on little stars (made of
foam). This past week, we had a Chidren's Breakfast and we got one more
kid. And the kids reminded ME to take a picture of him for his star. Also,
everyone has their name on a chair in the room. That really makes them
feel like they have a seat saved for them. Good luck to you.
