1) Crafts to sell @ Church

We had a craft sale to raise money for a disabled boy in our church. The children painted rocks which we gathered from the beach, we then put the prayer rock verse with them. We raised a lot of money as most church members bought one and the children really enjoyed painting them.

Prayer Rock

"I'm your little prayer rock and this is what I'll do. Just put me on your pillow until the day is through.
Then turn back the covers and climb into your bed, WHACK, your little prayer rock will hit you on the head
Then you will remember as the day is through to kneel and say your prayers as you wanted to.
Then when you are finished just dump me on the floor. I'll stay there through the night
to give you help once more. For when you get up in the morning, CLUNK, I'll stub your toe
so you will remember your morning prayers before you go. Then put me back upon your pillow
when your bed is made, and your clever little rock will continue in your aid."

Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

2) Sunday School Lessons

We have found the Discipleland Materials very helpful for our first hour which would be our equivalent of Sunday School.
They have both Core and Adventure categories to choose from. The Old Testament & New Testament Heroes series for the Kindergarten group ( we have used for K-2nd ) is especially good. They have an Old Testament 1 and a New Testament 1, as well as an Old Testament 2 and New Testament 2. Since each is 13 weeks you have material for an entire year.

The Old Testament & New Testament Champions for the older kids ( 3rd-5th Grades ) is along the same lines as the above and
is well done.

3) Elijah & the Raven

Here's a for game for Preschool-early elementary age children. It's a fun activity to break up the sitting time in Sunday School that may be too long for young ones.

Have a "Raven" stand on a sturdy chair & drop paper bits of food to "Elijah" who must kneel or sit on the floor. Have him/her try to catch the food before it hits the ground. It's harder than it seems so catch a piece of falling paper. Let the kids take turns so everyone can be the Raven & Elijah.

We just used bits of colored paper scraps, so set up is next to nothing. The kids had fun making up new food the Raven gave Elijah...pork chops, pizza, ice cream, spinach, etc.

Have Fun!

God Bless,
Miki, Minnesota

4)
Sunday School Lessons Review

"I have been meaning for some time to write to you to let you know how very much I appreciate your Bible-4-Life series. About two years ago I became the director and teacher for our Release Time Program at our local elementary school. When I was hired, I immediately scoured the internet for ideas and God led me to your site where I happily found your program. I purchased all of the books that you offered and have built my lessons on these from the very start. They have been absolutely wonderful! The kids respond so well to the games and craft ideas. They particularly love it when we make something out of food and then they get to eat it. I teach 1st through 6th grades and at first I was afraid that if I used the same lessons for all grades the 1st graders may not 'get it' and the 6th graders might be bored, but that hasn't been the case at all. It has been so easy for me to explain the lessons that you provide in greater, lesser or somewhat different detail for each group that we have and the lessons work great for all."

5) Needing Reward Ideas?

Does any one have ideas for rewarding kids? I send home a daily Bible reading for our kids Bible club. Last year we had a treasure box they could chose from if they brought back the bookmark signed by parents they had read each one. We were trying to come up with some new ideas, so thought I would ask. Also with saying their memory verse. We use the same verse for 2 weeks giving all a chance to learn it. We have a couple of slow learners but this way, they are able to learn also, and everyone really learns the verses. We use stickers in their journals, but any other ideas you'd like to share. Thanks. Sharon

6) Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas & the Economy?

These important holidays are approaching fast! We're just four weeks from Thanksgiving, five weeks from Advent and two months from Christmas! Yikes! How time flies!

I'd like to know if you're doing anything differently this year? Has the downturn in the economy changed your approach to these holidays? If so, how?
