1) Summer Kickoff Idea

Our church is having a summer kickoff day for our children's classes entitled "Have a Son-filled Summer!" I will give a short talk to the classes centering around summer activities and how to make sure that we don't "forget" about Jesus in the summer. (prayer, reading the Bible, serving others) The younger children are making sunflowers with a scripture attached for their crafts and playing a summer themed bingo game with Fruit Loops for markers. (I made up the game using Microsoft Word and clip art of Jesus, praying hands, cross, sun, children, etc.) The older children are decorating prayer journals, playing a relay game where they put the books of the Bible in order and also making thank you cards for the leadership team of our church. The snack will be lemon cupcakes with yellow icing and sprinkles on top. (Paper umbrellas would be cute, but I live in a country where they are hard to find.)

2) Daniel and the Lion's Den

Q: I am trying to find a craft to go with the bible story of Daniel and the Lion's Den. ~~Kali in NY

A: 1. Make paper bag hand puppet of Daniel and a lion.

Or 2. make a paper plate lion's face. Punch holes along the
outside and tie yarn for the mane. Draw the face, maybe use
google eyes. Add a loop of yarn at the top to hang it with.

3) How to grow Sunday School?

We have very few children in our church and would like ideas on how to attract more.
Thanks, Cheryl

--from SSTN: prayer of course, interaction by teachers and parents, engaging, Bible-based lessons, community involvement...
Also search our archives for more ideas on this topic (search link at top of newsletter).

4) Baby Shower for Jesus

We did a baby shower for our Christmas party one year and the kids just loved it. One of the games we played was to blind fold somebody and feed them baby food. They had to guess what kind it was. I actually just put food in the blender for them to taste-Taste and see that the Lord is good.

5) Father's Day Crafts?

I am a Sunday school Teacher of about 15 children, ages ranging from 3-14. I was wondering if you had any fathers day craft ideas.

Thank you so much,
M. Deckard

--from SSTN: make sure you check our Crafts Holiday page too. Link at top of newsletter.

6) Communion Basics?

Good Morning, I have need in how to explain the basic principles to children 4-7. Can you help me?

Thanks,
Meredith

--from SSTN: The basics are recorded in Luke 22:7-20. It is also helpful to read this from a child-friendly Bible with pictures.

Major points to be recognized:
1) Jesus was celebrating the Passover Feast with his disciples. (A feast God commanded Israel to celebrate for all time to remember that he delivered them from slavery in Egypt.)
2) During the Passover meal, Jesus' Last Supper, the unleavened bread was broken. Jesus said it represented his body (soon to be crucified for the sins of people).
3) The cup of wine represented a new covenant "agreement", Jesus' blood was to be poured out for all, in his crucifixion.
4) Then Jesus did something marvelous! He said that from now on, when you have this meal, the Passover meal / Lord's supper, do it in remembrance of HIM! He was preparing to be our final deliverer on the cross. He would rescue us from our slavery to sin!

7) Ten commandments song?

could you please expand on the 10 commandments song? I tried to find it by the link, no luck.

8) Joseph Craft?

I am looking for a craft for Joseph for 4 and 5 year olds

9) God Can Use Anyone

Moses stuttered.
David's armor didn't fit.
John Mark was rejected by Paul.
Timothy had ulcers.
Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning.
Jacob was a liar.
David had an affair.
Solomon was too rich.
Abraham was too old.
David was too young.
Peter was afraid of death.
Lazarus was dead.
John was self-righteous.
Naomi was a widow.
Paul was a murderer.
So was Moses.
Jonah ran from God.
Miriam was a gossip.
Gideon and Thomas both doubted.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog;
Just kidding -- he was depressed and suicidal.
Elijah was burned out.
Martha was a worry-wart.
Mary may have been lazy.
Samson had long hair.
Noah got drunk, and that's not all.
Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse?

But God doesn't require a job interview.
He doesn't hire and fire like most bosses,
because He's more our Dad than our Boss.
He doesn't look at financial gain or loss.
He's not prejudiced or partial, not judging, grudging,
sassy, or brassy, not deaf to our cry, not blind to our need.
