1) Kite, Wind Lesson

Hi:
This is a response to the [last] newsletter and how you might apply the kite and wind to the WORD and PRAYER.
I thought that maybe the kite represents the WORD, real, can be touched, observed, seen. PRAYER being the wind, has effect on the WORD, our faith in His Word and knowing that He not only hears our prayers but answers our prayers. The wind moves the kite, the more it blows the more the effect, the less it blows the closer to the world, (the earth) it comes. We don't see the wind, we see it's effects (same as prayer). Obviously this needs some work, but, a couple thoughts.

3) Kite, Wind Lesson

In response to the request for help with a Kite & wind lesson, I used this when talking about the Holy Spirit. You actually make a kite whilst doing the talk, we then let the kids make their own.

You start with 2 sticks which form the cross which hold the kite together, Jesus died on the cross to bring us back together in fellowship with God, you then add the material, this is a covering Jesus shed His blood as a covering for us, when covered with Jesus' blood we are shielded. You then add strings, the kite needs to be directed, we need to get deep into the word of God and read our Bibles regularly to find God's direction for our life. Finally you add a weight something to attach the string to, We need to attach ourselves to Jesus, we need to make Him our Saviour. We need Him He is our firm foundation. Then talk about the wind of the spirit that makes the kite fly. Hope this helps.

4) Whisper "Thank You God for..."

Thank you Sarah & all contributors, for the steady flow of ideas to make faith come alive for our children!

As promised to Sarah, here's an activity I used recently in the formation/training of catechists.

This activity calls for a 'quiet' appreciation of God's creation, to help children become aware of the environment that supports them, and how they need to do the same.

Take children outdoors. Give them a few moments to look around at the surrounding works of nature. Keep them within hearing distance. Explain that at each signal (use a whistle/trumpet/clap etc) you give, they are to point to, and focus on different works of nature of their choice & (for a change) whisper/think in their hearts 'Thank you God ... (for the pretty flowers ... ) etc. Do a few rounds, with a sufficient pause in between each call, to enable them to form their words of appreciation for each 'work' of nature.

You could follow up with whole group sharing, by asking volunteers to voice out their appreciation. Or let them share in small groups by themselves. Later, they can write the list down. It makes a good lead-in for an environment/nature/creation related topic. Or, you could use it for closure.
