Rock of Ages

Who Is He? | Listen Online

For the past few months I've been working on my Bible memorization skills and stretching my brain cells! The latest passage I've been memorizing is Psalm 19, which closes out with the following well-known Bible verse: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” Psalm 19:14.

As I thought about this passage, I was reminded of the many other Hebrew Scriptures that declare Yahweh—that is LORD written in all caps or Jehovah—to be the Rock; meaning God is a firm foundation, a place of refuge, he is our Savior.

Consider these verses:

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior. . .” 2 Samuel 22:2-3.

“The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!” 2 Samuel 22:47.

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” Psalm 18:2.

I was also reminded of what the Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, tells us about this Rock: "For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ" 1 Corinthians 10:1-4.

Friends, the ROCK is Jesus—our Savior-Jehovah—Hallelujah!
