Sample this children's sermon from It's In the Bag-52 Bible Talks for Children's Ministry.
Focus: Jesus, Creator, and Peacemaker – Genesis 1:1, Colossians 1:15-19
(You will need two people to present this sermon, as well as a bag containing a baseball cap and a child-friendly Bible
.)
Person 1: (Removes baseball cap from bag, places on head.)
Person 2: We don’t wear baseball caps in church. It’s not appropriate.
Person 1: Sure it is! The “big - inning” is today—right here at church!
Person 2: What are you talking about?
Person 1: Wow! Don’t you ever read your Bible? It’s right there in the very first book. It says, in the “Big - inning” God created everything.
Person 2: Oh brother, it doesn’t say the “Big - Inning.” It says in the
beginning—at the start of time—God created the heavens and the earth.
Person 1: Well that’s disappointing!
Person 2: Why do you say that?
Person 1: Because I love baseball!
Person 2: You can still love baseball, but creation is a much bigger event than a baseball game! Let me read something to you.
(Remove Bible from bag, read Colossians 1:15-16 from a child-friendly Bible)
